I heard this story from Rabbi Yaakov Haber. He told it to me whilst I was working for his father Reb Simcha Z'L. One of the previous Rosh Yeshivas of Yeshiva university was Rabbi - J.D Bleich. His mother was in a coma and was on life support and the doctors felt that it wasn't worth keeping her on the support any longer. Rabbi Bleich insisted that his mother be kept on the life support. He came by one Shabbat after shul to visit his mother in hospital. He sat next to her bed as he usually did watching over her frail body. Then suddenly quite unexpectedly, his mother opened her eyes saw her son sitting by her bedside with his Tallis on. She whispered good Shabbos ,closed her eyes and passed away. Rabbi Bleich said, that that last "good Shabbos" his mother uttered was the last mitzvah she managed to perform in this world: sanctifying the Holy day of Shabbat.
Rabbi Bleich was determined to see an alternative story to that of the doctors. A story which left an everlasting meaningful memory.
